Aromatherapy, Essential Oils Frequently Asked Questions
How are Open Door Aromatherapy elixirs superior to others kinds of aroma products?
Open Door Aromatherapy uses high quality pure, therapeutic essential oils and filtered/distilled water. We use time-tested blends that have been documented to help in the areas stated on the product label. We test our elixirs on our friends, family and clients so we know that you will benefit from them, too.
Lower grade aroma products or room fresheners may use chemicals, alcohol and other ingredients to insure long shelf life or potency. The ‘fragrances’ have often been created in a laboratory. These products will NOT deliver any therapeutic benefits. Once you become used to the 100% natural aroma and healthful benefits of essential oils, we believe you will always choose the real thing!
Where do Open Door Aromatherapy essential oils come from?
We source our essential oils from ethical small companies like our own who purchase from growers around the world. Different bio-regions are known for cultivating different plants, herbs, flowers, trees.
Imagine fields and fields of diverse plants, herbs, flowers, vines, trees- all being visited by pollinating bees, insects, birds and butterflies.
With every Open Door Aromatherapy product that you purchase, you are making it possible for more growers to cultivate more plants to feed the larger life that we are all part of.
What is the Science of Smell?
The sense of smell is the ONLY one of the five senses directly linked to the emotional center of the brain – the limbic system. The limbic portion of the brain directly influences the hypothalamus which is known as the ‘master gland’. The hypothalamus controls our energy levels, our emotions and even our health and lifespan. The other senses- sight, touch, hearing, taste- use other physical pathways to reach the brain.
This gives aroma a unique position of influence. An aroma can directly stimulate the brain to alter our biochemical messengers, which can improve perception, mood, energy and more.

About Essential Oils
Essential oils can be categorized into three groups.
The most highly volatile, or quickest to evaporate, are called ‘top notes’. They are generally uplifting, energizing and invigorating to the body, including the mind.
The next group, the ‘middle notes’ are used to stimulate and regulate the main body systems. This group impacts the emotions.
The group with the lowest volatility and slowest evaporation rate are called ‘bass notes’. Oils such as these are calming, relaxing and sedating. They are said to influence the spirit.
